World of Outlaws Sprint CarsWorld of Outlaw Sprint Car Series started off rough and ready to race with no wings and little protection for the drivers other than a role cage. As early as the 1970's wings and sideboards were added to the cars for added down force, greater control turning into corners and aborbing some of the impact for the driver when are air-borne or crash. World of Outlaw was formed in 1978 and is the premier dirt
sprint car racing series across the USA now with 75 race dates a year
including Canada. Famous tracks featured in the series included the Eldora
Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa and
Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Each August, the
Knoxville Raceway holds the paramount sprint car event, the Knoxville
Nationals Sprint cars have a high power to weight ratio, making speeds in excess of 140 mph (230 km/h) possible on some tracks with 750 horsepower engines. The US drivers like Steve Kinser, Danny Laoski, Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana and Daryn Pittman race the Australians, Tatnell and Madsen.
