C.A.R.T. Champ Indy Car World Series

CART - Championship Auto Racing Teams as originally known, formed in 1955 as the sanctioning body for Open Wheel Racing in America in 1979 to CART Champ Indy Car World Series as we know it today. Up until this time all of the open wheeled racing came under the same banner and enjoyed much success before differing factions changed open wheeled racing forever.

From 1979 when CART Champ Cars split, with the top teams like Rahal, Penske and Green with others staying with the same naturally aspirated ethanol fuels cars calling their Series I.R.L. or Indy Racing League and kept the famed Indianapolis 500 race.
CART Champ Indy Cars, open wheeled series run supercharged engines running on Methanol fuel, with amazing horsepower not unlike Formula 1. Moving from all American drivers to include International drivers like Mansell and Fittipaldi in 1989 and expanding racing from just the USA to across the whole. In 2000 some of the CART teams participate in the INDY 500 IRL race.

In 2003 with Michael Andretti buying Team Green and many American teams going back to IRL, the other team international owners and Newman Hass, buying CART, this form of racing has had it's ups and downs and now runs road and street circuits not speedways.
There is still talk today of joining CART and IRL for financial reason but only time will tell.
In 2007 with 18 events - 9 in the USA, 3 in Canada, 2 in Europe, 1 in Mexico, China & Australia gives CART Champ Indy Car World Series a true International flavour that promotes the international driver in there home countries.

Now in the top ½ of the field in 2007 we watch our Ozzie driver with great expectations of a championship in the near future.
